Scholarship Thankot

The future of Singla lies in the hands of the next generation and a superior education plays an important role in this. In 2008 Som Bahadur Gurung and Therese Baenziger started a children project in Thankot, 15km outside Kathmandu. Six children were incorporated in a private house, all of them coming from Singla and from poor or difficult family conditions. They live as a big family together and are looked after by 2-3 adults. They go to a private bilingual school in Thankot in Nepali and English. Currently there are 11 children living in the house, of which 10 attend school.

Our project is financed by sponsoring. For one child about €600 per year or €50 per month are needed to cover all expenses. Thus new sponsors are always welcome, for long- or short- term. Since 2011we offer the possibility for volunteering in the house. Anyone who is interested to live and work with the children is more than welcome.
